Day 25 - DeSmet, SD to Tyler, MN

The first week of our trip Pollie, our ride director, hit a large bird and put a good dent in the rental truck. Mary has surprised her with a nice little reminder of her mishap. It squawks when you press it too!!

Headwind all day, but the day went really fast for me. It was a good day. I've been pulling up on my pedals a lot more to get more power and speed and my hamstrings aren't used it - the back of my knees were hurting today from it. I've been riding hard the last couple days. There was a great bike shop in Brookings, SD that also owns the adjoining ice cream/coffee shop. They served us all free ice cream and had great sales in the bike shop. They also fixed my cadence meter which hasn't worked since day 2. The ice cream shop had a tv and chairs where a lot of us got to catch up on the Tour. Anywhere where we are and there is a television, you can usually find the Tour on.

We crossed the Minnesota border at about mile 62. State #6!!!! The towns are now closer together and there are a lot of lakes to ride past. A nice change from the dryer prairie. It's kind of nice to see the grain elevator in the distance every time we are approaching a new town. They all have one and they all seem to be on the western side of town, so we always see them first. It's comforting and definitely something to look forward to as it lingers in the distance. We are camping tonight in a small danish community called Danebod Folk School. The Lutheran pastor gave us a tour of the beautiful church and folk school. It is by far the most beautiful place we have stayed. I camped under my favorite tree - a sycamore. The buildings were beautiful and the people were so friendly. Food was catered by Tu phat women catering! Pretty good! We ate in a beautiful screen building with a stone fireplace. A very relaxing evening!

We are almost at the end of our 6 day stretch. I am exhausted. I have been getting lots of sleep and still my body is exhausted. I can't wait for the rest day!
